As we age most of us will gain weight and our waistlines will increase and so we go looking

When we embark on a diet for weight loss, we do lose fat, but we also lose muscle and the drop
in weight shown on the scales make us think we are making real progress. As we lose muscle mass our metabolism

Compounding this problem is the fact that we tend to lose muscle as we age which also
decreases metabolism. From around 25 years of age our metabolism decreases by around 5 percent every ten years,

Often we have not dropped our calorie intake by the same amount. Add to this the decrease in
activity, and the less physical leisure activity and we really have a problem.

bodies actually need and or increase how many calories our body is using by a good exercise

process then we will burn even more calories. If we can gain a pound of muscle we will burn an additional 350
calories every week without doing anything, just with the muscle being
maintained.
Exercises that use the main muscle groups will burn more calories than the usual diet for
weightloss, spot exercises on smaller muscle groups have a significantly
lesser impact. The leg muscles are the biggest in our body so any exercise that will use these will have the
greatest effect. Walking and jogging, especially if you can incorporate some interval training, will really use
some of those calories.
